2019 has been a great year for amazing movies from superhero, science-fiction, thriller to animated genres. We have been blown by entertaining and breathtaking movies such as Avengers: Endgame, Frozen 2, Joker, Bomshell, Parasite to name a few. This year alone has brought some of the best satisfaction that any moviegoers truly enjoy together with our family and friends. The year 2020 is just around the corner and let’s jump into a list of highly anticipated movies that you must watch on the big screen!
January
1917(Release date: 16th)
1917 is a World War 1 film directed by Sam Mendes and award-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins. The movie revolves around two young British soldiers tasked with an important mission to journey into enemy territory to send a message that could stop hundreds of soldiers from walking into a deadly attack. An ensemble cast includes George Mackay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Madden and Andrew Scott.
Bad Boys for Life(Release date: 23th)
It’s already a decade, after the release of Bad Boys 2, action flick fans will get another round in the buddy cup franchise. The main stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back as Miami Police Department detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. For those who are unfamiliar with the dynamic duo, check out their previous instalments where these bad boys deliver comedic action-packed adventure along the streets of Miami.

Birds of Prey(Release date: 6th)
Margot Robbie returns as the unhinged troublemaker Harley Quinn. After the events in the last film Suicide Squad, Harley has to take on a leadership role as she assembles an all-female super team. Together with the DC heroine Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya set on a new mission to protect a young girl from the villainous Black Mask.
The King’s Man(Release date: 13th)
A prequel to the Kingman films, the current story timeline is set during World War 1. Ralph Fiennes portrays the highly skilled Duke of Oxford together with Harris Dickinson as they take on a collection of history’s worst criminal masterminds that desire to plot a war to end millions of lives. Other casts include Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Daniel Bruhl, Djimon Hounsou and Charles Dance.
Sonic the Hedgehog(Release date: 27th)
The iconic beloved 90s video game character will be appearing in the cinema screens. The upcoming animated/live-action movie follows Sonic the Hedgehog who is trying to escape from the clutches of Dr.Robotnik and his plans for world domination. The newly released trailer shows the cartoon character was publicly well received after a huge backlash from fans as the initial Sonic design was made too realistic in the first trailer. Onward(Release date: 5th)
Pixar’s first animated movie for the year 2020 is Onward, a fantasy tale set in a modern, suburban world inhabited by elves, unicorns and dragons. The story centres around two elf brother, Ian Lightfoot(Tom Holland) and Barley Lightfoot(Chris Pratt) as they embark on a quest to help them come to terms with the death of their father.
Mulan(Release date: 26th)
Disney’s live-action Mulan offers a new take on the Chinese folktale which is a loose remake of the 1998 animated film, which is intended to better resemble the original tale. Chinese/American actor and popstar Liu Yifei will take on the mantle of Mulan along with supporting cast Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Gong Li, Yoson An and Jason Scott Lee.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run(Release date: 28th)
The cheerfully animated sponge is back, with a third film and this time the story sees SpongeBob and his best buddy Patrick set out on a new journey to find his snail pet, Gary. Unlike the animated series featured in 2D, the new movie uses 3D animation to bring the iconic characters instead. Tom Kenny the original voice actor for SpongeBob Squarepants returns together with the rest of the original voice cast for the franchise along with new cast Keanu Reeves, Kelly Marie Tran, Reggie Watts and Awkwafina.

Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow in Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow”–the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story will be taking place after “Captain America: Civil War”as she finds herself forced to confront her past. Other cast includes Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian and Rachel Weisz as Melina.

Wonder Woman 1984(Release date: 4th)
Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next journey finds her facing against two formidable foes: Maxwell Lord and the Cheetah. As the title suggests, the movie itself will be set in 1984, so expect plenty of cultural references from that era and also a surprise return for Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, who was presumed dead after the events of the first film.
Top Gun: Maverick(Release date: 25th)
Thirty-four years after the first release of Top Gun, Tom Cruise is returning to reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he oversees a new class of drone-flying Top Gun candidates from the naval aviation. The new cast includes Miles Teller as the son of Goose, portrayed by Anthony Edwards in the original Top Gun movie who become Maverick’s protege. Starring alongside is Val Kilmer returning to play as Iceman in the first show, Jon Hamm, Jay Ellis and Jennifer Connell.
