Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has updated the protocols for managing casual contacts of positive COVID-19 cases.
With these updates, if an individual is identified as a casual contact of a COVID-19 case, they will receive a notification on their MySejahtera Trace/Check-in application and are to self-isolate if experiencing symptoms.
Further, the ministry noted that initially, when MySejahtera Trace/Check-in identified users as a casual contact of a COVID-19 positive case, the status on the app will change to ‘Casual Contact (yellow risk)’. However, effective 1 March 2022 (Tuesday), there will be no change in risk status on MySejahtera profiles, for those identified as casual contacts.
This is part of the ministry’s preparations for Malaysia’s shift to an endemic phase, Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin shared.
Minister Khairy has reiterated the five steps to follow in cases where casual contacts experience COVID-19 symptoms:
1. Test
Immediately perform a COVID-19 self-test if you experience symptoms such as cold, fever, cough, and others.
2. Report
Immediately report the results in the MySejahtera application.
3. Isolate
If positive, immediately self-isolate or quarantine. Comply with the Home Surveillance Order set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
4. Inform
Immediately inform close contacts of positive test results. Similarly, immediately inform the relevant authorities or the nearest CAC if symptoms worsen while undergoing self-quarantine at home.
5. Seek
Seek immediate treatment at nearby healthcare facilities or CACs if you experience severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing and high fever.
