5 WAYS TO MAKE FRIENDS AT WORK

Posted by

Having productive friendships at the workplace is detrimental to one’s job satisfaction. When your day is ruined by a fussy boss or an annoying coworker, you can always rely on your work best friend to cheer you up. Some people say that having a work friend helps relieve stress and can even make your entire day tolerable if not enjoyable. Some out there have a hard time making friends in any sort of setting.

These are the simple ways you can do when trying to make a friend at work:

  1. Start Small Talk

If you just joined your company and find it difficult to get to know your colleagues, you can try engaging in small talk with them until you feel comfortable. You can ask them general questions about their life and try not to pry into their personal life too much.

2. Respect Everyone

Respect that other people have different opinions and ways of looking at the world. The first key to wanting respect for yourself is you must first be able to respect others despite their differences. This will make them feel heard and understood.

3. Practice Good Office Etiquette

Having good manners as a working adult wouldn’t be a big problem. Always be reminded that you are sharing a common space. Therefore, you shouldn’t be making too many disturbing noises in your cubicle as it may distract your coworkers.

4. Be Kind

Try to be as kind to your coworkers as you can. You can try doing this by being helpful around the office such as helping buy coffee for your closest coworkers or helping them finish a project with a short deadline.

5. Have a Positive Attitude

It is scientifically proven that smiling releases endorphins and serotonin. Therefore, giving a smile to your colleagues makes them feel welcome and comfortable. Always maintain a positive attitude and try to be enthusiastic when it comes to work. By doing so, it creates a comforting atmosphere.
