Starlink’s broadband satellite Internet service is now available in Malaysia for RM220 monthly.
Starlink’s internet service has a download speed of up to 100Mbps (megabits per second).
The plan has no contract, but users must buy the Starlink Kit. The kit comes with a WiFi router, wires, and an electronic phased array antenna with a base.
The basic version costs RM2,300 and is recommended for “residential users and everyday Internet applications” by the company.
The high-performance kit costs RM11,613, and “power users and enterprise applications” are told to get it.
The high-performance kit has better resistance to weather. It has three times better speeds at temperatures above 35°, and better vision, especially in places with unavoidable obstructions.
On its website, the company said buyers could try its service for 30 days. Customers can return the hardware for a full refund if they weren’t happy.
Customers will also have to pay an extra RM100 for shipping and handling. So, it should take between one and two weeks to get the package.
Users must set up the gear to connect to the Internet by installing it and downloading its app.
The company tweeted that Malaysia is the 60th country to get its satellite service.
Last week, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that Malaysia had given Starlink the license it needed to offer Internet services.
He also said that the government is ready to work with companies like Starlink to ensure that all people in populated places can access the Internet.
On 14 July, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with Musk. He was glad the corporation want to invest in Malaysia, especially Tesla electric cars and Starlink.
He bought 40 Starlink systems for schools, colleges, and universities, according to an online report.
