Character.AI: The ChatGPT Rival

Posted by

Character.AI is a website and app that lets people choose from different ChatGPT-style bots they can talk to.

On Character.AI, you can choose from various role-playing chatbots based on fictional figures and real people, both alive and dead, like Vladimir Putin, Einstein, Elon Musk, and Mario. You can get advice from these bots, get help with your study, or have fun with them.

You can also make your own chatbot for private one-on-one conversations or for others to talk to.

Since ChatGPT became a big hit last December, many other sites have tried to take its place. But Character.AI’s approach to creative AI is fun, which helps it stand out.

According to data from SimilarWeb, the service became the second-most visited AI chat website in May, with 281.4 million views, a 62.5% increase over the previous month.

How does Character.AI work?

Character.AI is a company that makes generative artificial intelligence. It was started by Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, who also used to work at Google and built the company’s talking chatbot technology. After they left Google, a worker there said that the AI project they worked on was alive.

In September, they put out a version of Character.AI just for testing, making it look like you could talk to anyone.

Like ChatGPT, the main service is free, but you can pay for extras like faster access during busy times. Character.AI released a mobile app for iOS and Android on May 23, just a few days after OpenAI’s ChatGPT app.

How to use Character.AI?

Character.AI is easy to understand and use. Sign up for a free account using your email, Google, or social media information, and you can start talking to the bots in its database.

After you sign up, you can search for chatbots or look through groups like games, movies and TV, comedy, famous people, and religion to find them.

Once you start chatting, your conversations will be saved in the chats tab on both the web and PC. Additionally, some of the bots make pictures to go with the words they write.

To make your own bot, you must tap “create” and follow the steps. You’ll be asked to give your character a name, a profile picture, and a description, and you’ll be able to choose whether or not it can create images. You can make the bot public or private before you’re done.

But you should also know that robots often make mistakes. So, this is called an illusion in the tech world. Or, in the role of Character.AI website says, “Everything the characters say is made up.”
