WHAT IS A FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGIST?
A forensic psychologist is a specialist who applies their knowledge and understanding of psychology into the criminal justice system either as an expert witness or practitioner. Furthermore, they assess individuals by conducting psychological evaluations and providing expert testimony on the competency to commit a crime and possible criminal behaviour.
WHAT DOES A FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGIST DO?
A forensic psychologist assesses individuals to establish their cognitive abilities and bahaviour or mental health status. Other than that, they usually perform competency, triage and suicide risk assessment by compiling reviews from each patient and provide expert testimony in court. Meanwhile, they will also need to consult with multidisciplinary teams to educate on psychological issues while also administering psychological tests.

JOB BRIEF
We are looking for a forensic psychologist that is observant and empathetic to assist our team with appropriate psychological assessments and to conduct a variety of tests to support the team.
Moreover, forensic psychologist responsibilities may include providing expert opinion on the competency of the trial and performing psychological assessments on convicted inmates to help them transition back into society after incarceration. In addition, if you enjoy interacting with patients and are interested in upholding the justice system, we would like to meet you. Lastly, lease share your past experience alongside your application.
Most importantly, you will need to put your feelings aside during the evaluation phase in order to maintain a highly detailed result of each patient. You will need to remain unbiased in evaluations of a patient’s competency or their risk level.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide expert verbal or written testimony when requested by court
- Take on difficult cases with empathy and professionalism
- Complete reports, documentation and other tasks according to standards
- Act as a consultant for multidisciplinary teams and coaching psychology students
- Educate clinical teams on psychological issues
- Create, evaluate and initiate correctional programs
- Administer and report testing results
- Be on-call if needed

REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
- Proven work experience as a forensic psychologist or any similar position
- Excellent people skills
- Proficient understanding of mental and behavioral diversity
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to make tough decision during stressful decisions
- State licensure
- Proficient organisational skills
- Outstanding communication skill, both verbal and written
- Doctoral degree in psychology
SALARY RANGE
The monthly salary range for a forensic psychologist is between RM 3,800 to RM 6,500.
