Coffee beans can be found everywhere throughout the world with many different cultures have discovered unique ways to develop their very own beverage. From the addition of charcoal in Indonesia to egg yolks in Vietnam, here are Part 1 of international coffee recipes served around the world to inspire you to taste all of it.

 

1.Yuanyang

A popular beverage in Hong Kong, made of a mixture of coffee and Hong Kong-style milk tea. Originally, it was served at open-air food vendors and cafes, but now it’s available in various types of restaurants. The name refers to Mandarin Ducks, a symbol of conjugal love in Chinese culture, as the birds appear in pairs.

 

2.Wiener Melange

A well-known beverage in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria. Wiener Melange is a black coffee mixed or covered with whipped cream.

 

3.Turk Kahvesi

Also known as Turkish Coffee, it is prepared by boiling very finely powdered roast coffee beans two or three times in a post, with sugar and serving it into a cup. It is a common beverage throughout North Africa, Middle East, Caucasus and the Balkans.

 

4.Shakerato

An Italian iced coffee drink using freshly ground espresso shaken over iced and poured into a martini glass.

 

5.Rudesheimer Kaffee

An alcoholic coffee beverage from Germany. The ingredients include Asbach Uralt brandy and sugar cubes are added to a Rudesheim cup, which is specially used for this type of drink.

 

6.Piccolo Latte

A Piccolo Latte is essentially a baby latte based on the Italian pronunciation. It can also be described as a single part of espresso and two parts of steamed milk with a layer of silky foam on the top.

 

7.Pumpkin Spice Latte

A beverage made with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, steamed milk, espresso and sugar, topped with pumpkin pie spice and whipped cream. It is mainly served by Starbucks in the United States.

 

8.Red Eye

A fortified coffee drink in which espresso is mixed with normal drip coffee. Depending on the number of shots which have been added, it can be called a black eye or dead eye as well. It is also referred to as a Canadian if the drip coffee is added to the espresso.

 

9.Black Tie

A black tie is a fusion of Thai iced tea, which consists of a sweet mixture of chilled black tea, two shots of espresso, orange blossom water, star anise, crushed tamarind, sugar and condensed milk or cream. A similar drink with a single shot of espresso is called a “red tie.”

 

10.Ristretto

An espresso made by firmly adding enough espresso beans for two shots, and only pulling a single, while cutting the process before it the cream comes out. Compared to a normal espresso, the Ristretto is a more highly concentrated espresso coffee.

 

11.Pharisaer

A well known German beverage which is a mix of sweetened coffee, rum and whipped cream. It was invented in the 19th century and it’s usually served in a large hot toddy glass.

 

12.Oliang

Mainly referred to as Thai iced coffee, a popular beverage in Thai restaurants around the world. The beverage is a mixture of coffee, brown sugar and various grains and seeds such as sesame, rice, soybean, corn and cardamom.

 

13.Mustang Coffee

A drink made from a mix of coffee, sugar or honey butter and Nepalese rice wine. It’s a well-known beverage in Nepal, especially in locations travelled by trekkers.

 

14.Mocha Breve

Mocha Breve is an American type of a latte which is a milk-based espresso drink using steamed and a half-and-half mixture of milk and cream.

 

15.Mocha

A common chocolate-flavoured coffee which is often in iced, latte or frappe form. The name of the beverage is derived from the city of Mocha, Yemen which was one of the centres of the early coffee trade.

 

16.Lungo

An Italian coffee beverage made by using an espresso machine by adding much more water resulting in a larger coffee drink. In French, it is called cafe allonge. 

 

17.Macchiato

An espresso-based coffee drink consisting of coffee with a small amount of milk. The phrase Macchiato is an Italian word meaning marked coffee, this beverage is made by marking a single shot of espresso with a few drops of frothed milk and served in a demitasse.

 

18.Marocchino

A coffee beverage created in Alessandria, Italy which is served in a small glass and consists of a shot of espresso, cocoa powder and milk froth. The name Marocchino is derived from its colour, as it’s a type of light brown leather used in the 1930s to make hair bands.

 

19.Mazagran

Originated in French Algeria made by French soldiers, it’s a cold sweetened coffee drink. Austrian variant is served with an ice cube and rum, while the Portuguese version is made with espresso, lemon, mint and rum.

 

20.Meringue Coffee

A simple beverage made using espresso, milk and Meringue mix in together with the drink.

 

21.Long Black

A beverage made by adding a double-shot of espresso over hot water. It’s a well-known drink served in New Zealand and Australia. Unlike the Americano, the Long Black has more crema than the latter and it has a stronger flavour.

 

22.Lazy Eye

A coffee beverage that is made with two shots of espresso topped over a regular cup of decaffeinated coffee.

 

23.Latte

Originated from the Italian Peninsula, Latte term is a shortened form of the Italian caffe latte or caffe latte which means milk coffee. The beverage is made half espresso, and half steamed milk topped off with milk foam.

 

24.Lagrima

A beverage was widely known as Cafe Lagrima or latte macchiato which refers to the way of preparation, where the milk is carved with the added coffee. It is different from latte since it only uses half a shot of espresso.

 

25.Kahawa Chungu

An old traditional beverage that is well known in Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu. Kahawa Chungu is also known as the Bitter coffee which is brewed over a charcoal stove in a tall brass kettle, served with Haluwa or Dates.

 

26.Karsk

A popular beverage in Sweden and Norway, it’s a beverage that consists of a shot of espresso with a shot of liquor. It can also be considered as a type of cocktail that is mixed with moonshine and sugar.

 

27.Kopi Joss

Widely known as the Charcoal coffee that originated in Java, Indonesia. It’s usually served by street vendors where a piece of hot charcoal is added into a cup of coffee.

 

28.Kopi Susu Panas

A well known local drink that has been around for decades which can be easily found in Mamak stalls or Kopitiam. The origin of the beverage can be traced back to Cafe Bombon, a popular drink in Valencia, Spain. A Kopi Susu Panas uses ground coffee and sweetened condensed milk at the same ratio.

 

29.Kopi Telur

A traditional beverage from Padang, Indonesia, it’s made with a layer of unfiltered coffee, foamed egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk. 

 

30.Kaffe Tonic

A popular beverage from Sweden, it’s a mixture of espresso and Fever-Tree tonic served over ice.

 

31.Kaffeost

A traditional drink from the Northern Scandinavian, which uses dried cheese by adding it into a cup of hot coffee.

 

32.Kafe Botz

Widely known as the Israeli coffee or Mud Coffee which is famous for its rich aroma and unique taste.

 

33.Kaisermelange

The name translates to Emperor’s melange thanks to its unique texture and rich flavour of the coffee. It is a mixture of a pulled espresso added with a raw egg yolk. The beverage can also be served by adding honey and brandy or rum.

 

34.Irish Coffee

The Irish coffee is a cocktail that is mixed with hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar and topped with thick cream.

 

35.Ipoh Coffee

A popular local drink originated in Ipoh, Perak. The coffee beans are roasted with palm oil margarine, and the resulting coffee is served with condensed milk.

 

36.Guillermo

This particular beverage is a variant of espresso-based coffee. Traditionally mixed with one or two shots of hot espresso added together with slices of lime. It can also be served on ice, occasionally with an addition of milk.

 

37.Gibraltar

A double-shot espresso with between one and two ounces of steamed milk mix in, it’s generally served in a glass tumbler. The glass tumbler is also known as Gibraltar glass, hence the name of the beverage.

 

38.Galao

A hot coffee beverage originated from Portugal, it’s a mixtuere of espresso and foamed milk. It’s similar to cafe latte which is serve in a tall glass.

 

39.Frappe

Widely known as the Greek frappe, a foam-covered iced coffee beverage made from instant coffee. It’s a well-known drink in Greece and Cyprus but has now gained recognition throughout the world.
