5 Reasons Why SPM Leavers Should Enter a Polytechnic

Polytechnic students may benefit from the employment market and global economy. Unfortunately, many SPM grads don’t see polytechnic as a good option for some reasons.

5 Reasons Why You Should Choose To Enter a Polytechnic

Here are five reasons why you might want to go to a polytechnic:

1. Less competition

The fact that universities are more “glamorous” is one reason why more SPM graduates don’t choose to go to polytechnics. Also, universities and colleges are shown in movies and TV shows in this country a lot more than polytechnics. In 2022, for example, about 20,000 applicants didn’t get into university. In fact, polytechnic admission declined by 12.8% this year. So, it is easier to get into polytechnic compared to university.

2. More jobs in the technical field

Malaysia wants to become a high-income country, so it needs more technical experts. Asian countries that are doing well, like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore, train technical workers by putting their people to work. Even in this area, Malaysia shouldn’t fall behind. Last year, 95.6% of people who graduated from polytechnics were able to find work in the technical sector.

3. Opening of new green technology sectors

In the 21st century, new technologies are better for the earth and there are options to replace oil and gas. Green technology that uses natural resources is growing quickly. As this green technology grows, there will be a need for more scientific experts. This means that polytechnic graduates will have more job opportunities.

4. Global competition

Malaysia is now facing tough competition in science and technology from developing countries like Indonesia and Thailand. Asia has become an important economic power, so Malaysia should take the chance.

5. Reduce dependence on foreign energy

With 30 million people, Malaysia should be able to produce all the labor it needs. If we can do the expert work ourselves, we can save money on hiring people from other countries. We could also sell our labor to countries in South Asia or Africa.
