Malaysia Ranks 14th in Worldwide Noodle Consumption

A study by Yahoo!Finance listed 15 countries that consume the most noodle worldwide. They shortlisted the 15 most noodle eating countries in the world. The data used is from the official World Instant Noodle Association, GlobalData, and Fortune Business Insights.

The rankings are based on the primary metric of annual demand as of December 31, 2022, with a unit of annual servings. To make the list more comprehensive, they acquired the country-wise noodle industry market size valuation from Fortune Business Insights and GlobalData. While key takeaways can be derived from the market size of the noodles industry of a country, the inclusion of such information has been subject to data availability. All available information where possible for better coverage of the noodles industry scenario.

Malaysia has the noodle annual servings of 1.55 billion, as of December 31, 2022.

A popular dish in Malaysian culture is having fried noodles with chili and sweet soy sauce. Since Malaysia comprises a range of ethnicities, including Muslims and Hindus. The country is home to a variety of ramen flavors and styles.

Based on the ranking, China is the most noodle eating country in the world. With an annual demand of 45.07 billion servings as of December 31, 2022, the country is home to the largest noodles industry in the world, accounting for 40% of the global population.

The Chinese pasta and noodles sector is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3% between 2021 and 2025. Aligning with global industry trends, the Chinese noodles industry has also begun to experience a shift toward healthier options. Therefore, this explains the increasing use of whole wheat flour and quinoa in the production of ramen in China.

Indonesia came in at number 2, Vietnam came in at number 3. While, India at number 4 and Japan at number 5.

Surprisingly, USA is ranked number 6 on the list. Followed by the Philippines at number 7 and the Republic of Korea at number 8.

Thailand came in at number 9, Brazil came in at number 10. While, Nigeria ranks at number 11 and Russia at number 12 followed by Nepal at number 13. Lastly, Mexico is at number 15.
