We Malaysians eat roti canai for breakfast a lot of the time. And it’s nice when this common Malaysian food is known as the best bread worldwide.
TasteAtlas, an international food guide, just put out a list of the Top 10 Best Rated Breads in the World. TasteAtlas’s website says its goal was to promote great local foods, make people proud of traditional meals, and get people interested in foods they haven’t tried yet.
In a short explanation of how they made their list, the website said they used more than one way to determine which bread was the best.
TasteAtlas food rankings are based on the ratings of the TasteAtlas audience, with a series of mechanisms that recognize real users and ignore bot, nationalist, or local patriotic ratings, and give more weight to the ratings of users that the system recognizes as knowledgeable.
For the list, TasteAtlas said that they had collected 14,596 scores, of which the system recognized 9,641 as genuine.
According to the results, roti canai from Malaysia is the best bread in the world.
TasteAtlas also lists roti kosong and roti cane under the same group as roti canai as other names for the same thing.
Roti canai is a traditional Indian flatbread made with flour, water, eggs, and fat that is most often eaten in Malaysia and nearby countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and Thailand.
TasteAtlas says that roti canai has a soft inside and a crispy outside, which gives the bread its layered shape.
Aside from that, they also mentioned things like beans, curries, and toppings that go with roti canai. TasteAtlas said that the most well-known kind of roti canai is martabak.
TasteAtlas did note, however, that there are other kinds of roti canai in Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The guide also included items for people who want to try making it.
They added the Top 50 Best Breads in the World to their list. Some of the breads on the list came from India, France, Colombia, Chile, and Italy, among other places.
