Tips to Stay Productive Throughout the Holidays

With the festive Chinese New Year season drawing near, to stay productive in the midst of all the shopping and gathering can be a real struggle to some of us. Don’t let the holiday mood affect your productivity throughout the celebration, especially those who are observing. Check out these handy tips to maintain your working momentum.

Working During the Holidays

If your job requires you to work during the holidays, make sure that you have the right mindset to avoid getting slack off. Try to allocate a specific time to get all your shopping done before the holiday starts instead of mixing the tasks altogether. With a hefty workload, it’s all the more important to stay healthy. Don’t overwork yourself during the day just to get off on time for a late night gathering. Know what your priorities are and stick to your schedule. You may even try to propose a preferred shift to your colleagues and your boss to work out the schedule where everyone has a chance to enjoy the holiday with their loved ones.

Avoid Over-committing

Not even Superman can save the world alone. Know your limits and learn to prioritise tasks systematically while balancing it with your leisure time. If there are certain appointments or activities that are not highly important, allow yourself to either decline or postpone it. Focus on what matters more at a time, do refer to the tasks list that is assigned to you or simply discuss with your team to determine the top priorities and the timeframe to complete them. Don’t fall into the habit of responsibility hoarding at work, especially when it’s also time to spend with your family and friends.

Avoid Multitasking

Not everyone is capable of multitasking, if you are not great at it don’t try it. Chances are you may find yourself doing things slower than usual and you are more than likely to make mistakes along the way. That means you will spend extra time fixing all the issues you brought along with. It would serve you better to focus on one task at a time.

Maintain Your Physical and Mental Wellness

Always stay on top of your exercise routine especially during the holidays. Not only will it help to keep your body in good shape, it’ll also help to relax your mind. If you don’t have a regular workout session, it’s time to start one! Plan for at least 30 minutes of any form of exercise depending on your fitness goals. Do take care of your daily meal consumption as well, don’t go crazy over the wonderful Chinese New Year treats (we know it’s tough not to!). But having a balanced meal intake coupled with exercise will do wonders for your body, not to mention the positive impact of stress relief during the holidays.
