A licenced doctor should be the only one to do cosmetic surgery, and they should have advanced training in plastic surgery methods if possible.
Unfortunately, we hear a lot about people who go to people who do not have license to practise medicine for cosmetic treatments.
Here are 4 dangers of doing cosmetic surgery by unlicensed surgeon:
1. Severe infection
Staph bacteria can cause infections that’s resistant to antibiotics used for typical staph infections.
People who’ve undergone invasive procedures are vulnerable to bacteria in healthcare settings, especially if clinicians aren’t stringent about washing their hands and cleaning tools between patients, the Mayo Clinic says.
For example, there is a patient who had a liposuction and then had severe infection of both her lower limbs after liposuction. Staph bacteria caused the infection, and it could get worse if she did not go to the hospital.
2. Permanent scar
One can have permanent scarring after a botched cosmetic procedure. Everyone should stick to the professionals when it comes to skin tightening or laser treatments.
You could experience skin burns or scars after intense pulsed light or laser by unprofessionals.
An unlicensed procedure could went badly wrong, leaving you with hundreds of red blotches and scars.
It could be a traumatic experience and you would struggle to leave home over fears people might see your scars.

3. Permanent disability
Unlicensed beauty surgery can also cause permanent disability such as blindness.
Beauty surgeons usually injects dermal filler using a classic sharp hypodermic or a cannula. Complications include nerves and vessels disorders, pain and bruising. Therefore, it is illegal if an unlicensed facility carries out a cosmetic injection.
A dermal filler may enter blood vessels around eyes, while people receive injections around the area and cause blindness. Thus, injections on the maxillofacial region may damage the nerves, cause a stroke and even death
4. Death
Beauty surgery by unlicensed surgeon can cause death.
For example, former model Coco Siew who had her liposuction procedure at an unlicensed beauty salon ended with her death in 2020.
In Siew’s case, she had found a cheap option online, and only after she died did the beauty salon admit they have no license to perform medical procedures.
