Over the past three years, CTOS Data Systems Sdn Bhd, a fully owned subsidiary of CTOS Digital Bhd, discovered 335,000 pieces of personally identifiable information pertaining to 58,000 Malaysian consumers on the dark web.
According to a statement released by CTOS on Thursday, the detected information leak includes information from credit and debit cards, passports, email addresses, and phone numbers that could be used fraudulently, identity theft, or scams.
The breaches were detected by CTOS SecureID service, which scans more than 1.4 billion data breach records to detect and notify users when their personal information is leaked and found on the dark web.
“As Malaysia’s economy grows, the digital economy is contributing significantly to it. As a result, consumers are transacting more online and are exposed to more online threats.
“Millions of customers have been adversely impacted by data breaches that have occurred in Malaysia over the past year in banking, e-commerce, telecommunications, broadcasting, and aviation sectors,” said CTOS.
At market close, the stock settled up one sen or 0.7% to RM1.43, for a market capitalization of RM3.3 billion.
