At work, it’s important to feel energised and healthy to be as productive as possible. Nowadays, there’s a lot of talk surrounding blue light and the effects it has on the body. There are multiple ways you may feel the symptoms caused by blue light, not only do you have to worry about it while you’re at work but also in your personal time so it doesn’t affect your sleep patterns at night.

You may already be aware of the effects that blue light has on your body. Some symptoms you can feel from extended exposure to blue light while you’re working during the day include headaches, neck and back pain, eye strain, and blurred vision.

If you have experienced it before there are ways you can do to counteract the symptoms. Firstly, invest in a pair of glasses that filter blue light from reaching and irritating your eyes. You can try the f.lux app on your computer or phone to transition the colours on your screen from cooler to warmer; the warm light will cause less strain on the eyes. Give your eyes a break frequently throughout the day to avoid headaches and blurry, dry eyes. Take short breaks from your computer often, looking away from any screens multiple times in an hour, or even going into a darker room to give your eyes a rest can help.

While you’re at work, it’s important to be aware of how much blue light you’re being exposed to. If you work on a digital device for most of your day, then there are some things you can do to help combat the effects you may feel from extended use of these devices. Plus, the symptoms can be even worse if you use multiple devices at once, like two screens or a computer and a smartphone.

Blue light can affect your sleep cycle, so if you’re on your digital devices at night time your sleep could be disrupted, causing a tired, unproductive work day. In a recent article published by Harvard called, “Blue light has a dark side” they explain the issues people often face when using their digital devices. For example, it explains that even a tableside lamp being light up before bed can disrupt sleep. The amount of light emitted from electronic devices can cause sleep deprivation and various severe health issues like depression as well as diabetes.

Think about how you feel at work when you don’t sleep well at night… It’s hard to focus, feel inspired or creative, and lowers your productivity throughout the day. Plus, if you’re tired, that can cause a snowball effect of other bad habits at work like poor memory and lack of concentration.

Take a moment to think about how you feel when encountering blue light and how you feel when you lack sleep at work. If you’ve ever felt these effects or others, please share your experience in the comments below! Head over to Jobstore.com and unveil your next job opportunity.
