Have you ever tried reaching out to your networks to get a job? It may sound like a daunting task, but the first thing that comes to your mind is who do you reach out to? To make sure you get the most out of your networking email, here are a few templates that you can utilise in hopes enlisting the help from your network to increase your odds of finding a job.
Create a list of key points
Instead of sending your resume directly to your network, it would be much easier to list down everything in bulleted lists. It is easier to go through within a short amount of time. What you should include:
- A list of your last job position titles, company name and your job scope.
- Your desired job position and duties.
- A list of companies, industry or location you ideally want to work in.

Draft a mass email
Next, you need to contact anyone that is in your social network by drafting an email stating you are searching for a new job and that you need their assistance. Be more specific about what you are inquiring for is it job leads, postings, new contacts or all of it. You will need to include details about your current position, company, the length of time you have been working there, and what you are searching for and the location. Last but not least include your talking points at the bottom of the email and attach your resume.

Hello dear friends,
I hope all is well for everyone!
As most of you are aware, I have been at my current job as Senior Auditor for Hilton for almost 2 years. I have made the decision to explore new challenges in the accounting field and am reaching out to my circle of networks to seek help with any potential leads or contacts.
I am searching for a manager-level position in Kuala Lumpur, preferable in the tech or hospitality field. I am keen on joining an agency as well.
If you have any job openings or leads that you are able to share with me, please send them to me. I have added a list of my past working experience, my ideal job positions, and my list of preferred companies. I have also included my resume for your reference and please feel free to share it with your contacts.
Thank you so much for your assistance! I hope you are doing very well and let’s catch up when you are able soon.
Draft a personalised email
Besides sending an email to all your social network, you will need to craft a personalised email to your former colleagues, former manager and your mentors as well as people who work at your ideal company or any person that you deemed able to help you out. A personalised email should be unique from person to person as you may need to make a specific request on how the person can cater to your needs. Ask for specific introductions or potential job leads at the desired company. Additionally, you can try and ask for informational interviews, advice on companies and positions, or feedback on your resume.

Hi Harry,
I hope all of you are doing well! I am contacting you because I am currently searching for a new job. You may be aware that I have been working at the Hilton for two years and now I am looking for a new challenge in the accounting field.
I know that you previously worked at GLOMAC, which is my list of preferred companies to work with. Would you kindly share with me any relevant contacts there, and if there is someone that would be more than willing to conduct an informational interview with me? Your introduction can really help me a lot and I truly appreciate it.
On a side note if you know any potential job openings or leads that you are able to share with me, please do send it along. I have added my resume for your reference and please feel free to share it along.
Thank you so much for your support! Please do let me know how things are going and if there is anything you need help with I can return the favour.
Patience is a virtue
Not everyone has the time to respond to your request right away but if you have not received any response in a week or so, it would be a good gesture to send a follow-up email. If you are able to land on your dream job, be sure to send a personal email and thank every person that comes to your support by offering you help. Regardless of who and what they help with, let them know their efforts are highly appreciated.
